Out of the Unknown
This was a series of science fiction plays. I have little memory of the plays themselves but I remember clearly the theme music from 1971 and the title sequence. The music especially was very haunting.
The clip can now be found on YouTube.

The theme was written by a French composer named Roger Roger and is from his album Grands Travaux. It wasn't written for Out Of The Unknown but is a stock library music cue titled Profondeurs (Lunar Landscape). The eerie but beautiful theme was played on an Ondes Martenot, an electronic instrument similar to a theremin, but more advanced.
The music was also used in the last episode of The Prisoner TV series and is available on one of 3 CDs of music from The Prisoner (on the Silva Screen label).
